What Is Silk Screen Ribbon Printing?
Silk screen ribbon printing applies ink through a prepared screen to reproduce artwork on the ribbon surface. It is a practical choice when the design relies on clear shapes, lettering or solid-color branding rather than photographic images, complex gradients or highly detailed multicolor graphics. This makes the style particularly useful for repeating a company name, logo, event title or short promotional message along a continuous ribbon.
The important buying decision is therefore not simply the ribbon color. Buyers should first consider the artwork itself. A clean logo with defined elements is naturally better suited to this printing approach than artwork containing numerous tonal changes. If your design depends heavily on multiple colors or more complex visual detail, discuss the artwork requirements before selecting the final printing style.
Satin or Grosgrain Ribbon
Available material choices include satin and grosgrain. Although both can serve similar packaging and presentation purposes, their visual character differs.
Satin provides a smoother-looking surface and works well when the ribbon forms part of gift presentation, corporate packaging, cake boxes, hampers or other applications where the appearance of the wrapping matters. Grosgrain has a more visibly textured ribbon surface, creating a different presentation for brands that prefer that characteristic finish.
Material selection should therefore consider the finished packaging, not just the logo. For example, a corporate gift box may call for a different ribbon appearance from an event decoration or retail package. Buyers looking at other branding accessories can also explore custom art card printing for cards, inserts and supporting printed material.
Choosing the Right Ribbon Width
RafflesTag's custom ribbon range includes 15mm, 20mm and 25mm widths. Choosing the width affects both how the ribbon looks on the package and how much usable space the artwork has.
A 15mm ribbon creates a narrower presentation that can work well with smaller boxes, tags or more understated wrapping. The 20mm option provides additional visual space and is a practical middle choice for general branded packaging. A 25mm ribbon gives the printed design more presence and can suit larger gift boxes, hampers or applications where the branding needs to be easier to notice.
Before preparing artwork, consider the intended width together with the size and complexity of the logo. Reducing complicated artwork onto a narrow ribbon can affect readability, so simple, clearly defined elements are preferable.
Where Silk Screen Printed Ribbons Are Used
Custom silk screen ribbons can serve both decorative and branding functions. Businesses can wrap them around gift boxes, tie them around product packaging, incorporate them into corporate hampers or use them with promotional gifts. Bakeries and food-gift businesses can use branded ribbon around cake boxes or packaged gift sets, while retailers can add it to selected customer orders and seasonal packaging.
Event organizers can also use printed ribbon for presentation and decoration where repeated event or sponsor branding is required. For events that also need participant credentials, staff identification or passes, RafflesTag supplies custom lanyards and custom card holders as separate options.
Preparing Artwork for Silk Screen Printing
The strongest artwork for this style is usually uncomplicated. Company names, simple logos, initials, event names and short messages can be arranged as repeating elements along the ribbon. The available printing area depends partly on the selected ribbon width, so keep artwork readable after scaling to the actual production size.
Avoid treating a ribbon like a large printed sheet. Small details that are easy to see on a computer monitor may become difficult to distinguish once reduced to ribbon size. When submitting your design, consider which part of the artwork is essential. Removing unnecessary details can create a clearer repeated print and stronger branding across the finished ribbon.
Silk Screen Ribbon vs Full-Color Ribbon
The main distinction is the type of artwork each printing approach is intended to handle. Silk screen printing is a strong option for simpler graphics and solid-color designs. Full-color printing is more appropriate when artwork depends on broader color reproduction, gradients, detailed patterns or other visual elements that cannot be simplified effectively.
Don't choose a method based on the product name alone. Start with the final artwork and decide how you'll use the ribbon. If you need simple repeated branding on packaging, silk screen printing provides a focused solution. If the design needs more visual complexity, another custom ribbon style may be more appropriate.
Create a Coordinated Branded Presentation
Ribbon is often only one component of a finished gift, promotional package or event kit. Combining consistent colors, logos and typography across several items can create a more coordinated presentation.
For example, a branded ribbon can finish a corporate gift package while a printed insert communicates the campaign message. Event organizers can pair packaging materials with PVC card printing for credentials or access cards. For staff who need cards readily accessible throughout an event or workplace, custom pull reels provide another ID accessory option.
Order Custom Silk Screen Printed Ribbon in Malaysia
Start by deciding where the ribbon will be used, then select the material and width that fit the packaging or event application. Prepare your logo, brand name, event wording or simple artwork with readability in mind. You can then review the design against the selected ribbon format before production.
RafflesTag Malaysia supplies custom ribbon for businesses, retailers, bakeries, corporate gift projects and event requirements. Choose silk screen printing when you need clean, repeatable branding with straightforward artwork on satin or grosgrain ribbon.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Silk screen printed ribbon uses a screen-printing process to apply ink-based artwork to the ribbon surface. It is particularly suitable for logos, company names, event wording and other designs based on clearly defined elements.
Available custom ribbon materials include satin and grosgrain. Satin provides a smoother surface, while grosgrain has a more noticeable texture. The suitable option depends on your packaging style and desired presentation.
Available ribbon widths include 15mm, 20mm and 25mm. Narrower ribbon suits more subtle applications, while a wider ribbon provides additional visible area for logos, text and other printed branding.
Yes. Silk screen printed ribbon can carry a company logo, brand name, event name, short message or simple artwork. Designs with clear elements are particularly suitable for this printing method.
Silk screen printing suits simpler designs and solid-color elements best. If your artwork contains extensive gradients, detailed patterns or complex full-color graphics, another printing method may be more appropriate for reproducing the design.
It can be used for gift boxes, cake boxes, hampers, product packaging, corporate gifts, retail presentation, event decoration and promotional packaging where a repeated logo, brand name or message is required.
