A Clean Binding Style for Shorter Publications
Saddle stitching is a simple booklet-binding method in which printed sheets are folded, nested together and stapled through the fold. The result is lightweight, easy to distribute and suitable for publications that do not need a thick square spine. For RafflesTag Malaysia’s current booklet range, saddle-stitched formats are offered from 8 to 52 pages, making them well suited to concise printed content where readers need to scan information quickly.
Choose the Size Around the Way People Will Use It
A4 offers the largest reading area and works well for manuals, presentation documents, image-led company profiles, and information-heavy catalogs. A5 is more compact and convenient for handouts, event programs, menus and product guides. A6 suits portability, while B5 offers a medium-sized format that feels more substantial than A5 without taking up as much space as A4.
Plan the Page Count Before Final Artwork
Saddle-stitched booklets are assembled from folded sheets, so page planning is an important part of artwork preparation. RafflesTag Malaysia currently lists page options from 8 through 52 pages. In standard saddle-stitch production, page counts are arranged in multiples of four because each folded sheet contributes four booklet pages. Finalize your text, photographs, tables, and advertising pages before production to keep the layout balanced and avoid unnecessary blank pages.
Select Cover and Inner Paper Separately
The cover and inside pages can use different paper weights, letting you balance handling, appearance, and budget. Current selectable GSM options include 80gsm, 100gsm, 128gsm, 157gsm, 210gsm, 260gsm and 300gsm for both cover and content. A heavier cover can give the booklet more structure, while lighter inner pages help control bulk as the page count increases. The best combination depends on the finished size, total pages, and intended use.
Use Full-Color Artwork to Organize Information
A saddle stitch booklet can carry full-color branding across the front cover and every inside page. Common content includes product photography, service lists, charts, schedules, maps, sponsor logos, QR codes, and contact information. For events, the booklet can work alongside custom raffle tickets; for customer mailers or presentation packs, it can be paired with custom greeting cards. Keeping these printed items visually consistent helps the campaign look coordinated without forcing every piece to carry the same amount of information.
Where Saddle Stitch Booklets Work Best
This binding style is most useful when the document needs to feel more complete than a flyer but does not require the bulk of a thick book. Typical applications include product catalogs, event programs, company profiles, school booklets, training notes, promotional brochures and menus. It is also useful for temporary campaigns or frequently updated information because the format is economical to handle and easy for teams to distribute at counters, exhibitions, seminars and roadshows.
Saddle Stitch Versus Wire-O Binding
Choose saddle stitch when you want a slim publication with a conventional booklet feel and a stapled center fold. Choose Wire-O when frequent page turning, note-taking or repeated reference is more important, because the wire binding supports a different handling style. RafflesTag Malaysia lists both styles on the Booklets parent page, so you can select the binding based on page behavior rather than appearance alone.
Artwork and Ordering Guidance
Prepare the booklet as a complete page sequence with the final size and page count already decided. Keep important text, page numbers, and logos away from trim edges, and allow suitable bleed where artwork extends to the edge. High-resolution images and clean vector logos help maintain sharp output. Before production, review spelling, contact details, QR-code destinations, page order, and any dates or prices that could change.
Production Planning for Malaysia Orders
RafflesTag Malaysia currently states around 15 business days for standard custom booklet production after artwork approval, with rush production available from around 10 business days. Allow additional time for artwork revisions, proof approval, and delivery, especially when the booklets are needed for a fixed event date. If you are building a broader printed campaign, the Digital Printing category also includes related products such as writing pads, stickers, greeting cards, and other paper-based promotional items.
Build a Complete Printed Information Set
Booklets often work best as the main information piece in a campaign, supported by simpler items that serve one specific purpose. For example, use a booklet for detailed product or event content, then provide a custom writing pad for notes during meetings or training sessions. This keeps the booklet focused on structured information while giving recipients a separate practical item for everyday use.
Frequently Asked Questions:
A saddle stitch booklet is made by folding printed sheets, nesting them together and stapling through the center fold. It creates a slim, lightweight booklet well suited to shorter catalogs, programs, profiles, manuals, and promotional publications.
RafflesTag Malaysia currently offers A4, A5, A6 and B5 booklet sizes. A4 provides the most page space, A5 is compact and versatile, A6 is portable, and B5 offers a useful medium-sized alternative.
The current RafflesTag Malaysia saddle stitch range covers 8 to 52 pages. Page planning should be finalized before artwork approval so photographs, text, advertisements and blank pages are arranged correctly.
Each printed sheet is folded in half, creating four booklet pages. Because of that production structure, saddle-stitched publications are normally planned in page counts divisible by four, such as 8, 12, 16, or 20 pages.
Current cover and content paper selections include 80gsm, 100gsm, 128gsm, 157gsm, 210gsm, 260gsm and 300gsm. The ideal combination depends on your booklet size, page count, desired stiffness, and overall handling.
Yes. You can select the cover and inner pages separately from the available paper weights. A heavier cover adds structure, while lighter inside pages help keep a multi-page booklet easier to fold and handle.
